The French Aid in Somalia in 2018 was of 1.385 M€. It was allocated to the improvement of the living conditions of IDPs (internally displaced persons). This public, highly vulnerable and experiencing rapid growth (2.6M in November 2018, more than 20% of the population), concentrates approximately 60% of the persons in situation of food crisis and food emergency in Somalia.
WFP uses SCOPE, its digital delivery assistance platform, to provide vulnerable families with e-vouchers. Individual SCOPE cards contain information on the beneficiary household, including biometric data of up to 3 family members who can use their e-vouchers on the card at different local shops that have agreements with WFP.
Humanitarian aid is one of the priorities of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. It is mobilised in case of an acute or long-lasting crisis following a natural disaster (earthquakes, floods…) or caused by men (conflicts), according to the fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality.
