A Regional Audiovisual Attaché office for East Africa is based in Nairobi to liaise with institutions and professionals in the fields of television, film, radio, regulation and audiovisual copyrights.
In addition to the promotion of French and Francophone cinema, particularly in collaboration with the Alliance Française, partnerships with film festivals help to provide varied programming and to strengthen cultural diversity.
Training and Expertise sessions aimed at professionals from radio, television and film offer added support to the sector’s institutional structure, towards many professionals as well as the Ministry of Information and Communication, the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) and the Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK).
The presence of French Audiovisual products in the broadcast sector is also another line of work, with specific programs from RFI and Canal France International (CFI). RFI has two FM frequencies in Kenya, 89.9 FM in Nairobi and 105.5 FM in Mombasa. CFI provides a variety of TV shows to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) which can be integrated into its program schedule.
Moreover, support for the promotion of Kenyan films enables filmmakers to travel to festivals in Africa and France, to develop their network and to gain access to new markets.
All these missions are realized through workshops, internships, partnerships, invitations to France or to other African countries, invitations of experts to Kenya, screenings, meetings and debates.
The audiovisual office in Nairobi is also responsible for audiovisual cooperation in Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Southern Sudan and Tanzania, supporting the embassies of France in these different countries.
