The French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA) will be orgnizing an International Conference on Devolution from 12th to 13th June 2018 at IFRA offices, Laikipia Road, Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

As a public research Institute, IFRA aims at increasing the understanding of contemporary dynamics in Eastern Africa and foster the dissemination of knowledge and at strengthening institutional relationship between French and East African universities and research centres by supporting joint projects such as this conference.

The organization of this Conference has been supported by :
IFRA Nairobi, the Institut Français, the French Embassy in Kenya, French Agency for Development & Oxford University

This conference aims to draw a concrete presentation of who & what makes devolution in Kenya, to address deeper societal and academic issues and to engage through a debate on the models of devolution and the political and social impacts of devolved systems of governance in Africa. The political and historical background of devolution, the impact of devolution on corruption and patronage networks engages with a broader analysis of the relationship between citizens, local elites and the State.
