Departure of the first cohort of Kenyan language assistants [fr]
As part of the recent recruitment program for English assistants in France, more than 150 Kenyan students have tried their luck.
70 of them have been selected and more than 10 universities from across the country are represented. After a week full of events dedicated to them, this young people team is now on their way to France.
Launched this year in Kenya, this exchange programme for language assistants in France contributes to the international mobility of students and offers them a training opportunity and the start of professionalization, thus bringing undeniable added value to their academic and personal careers.
The overall objective is to enable participants to familiarize themselves with the language and civilization of the host country while bringing the authenticity of their language and the richness of their culture to the educational institutions. The role of the assistant is to improve the communication skills of the students (especially orally) and to deepen their knowledge of a different civilization and culture.
The assistants have had a busy week! Welcomed on Wednesday at the Lycée Français Denis Diderot for a workshop with the head of the school and the consellor, they were able to discuss the specificities of French public schools. It was about secularism, freedom, equality, fraternity, solidarity and respect, the republican values dear to national education in France. These values ensure the equality of learners and the absence of all forms of discrimination in schools. After a short visit to the school to familiarize themselves with the functioning of a French school, they observed teachers in class at the end of the morning.
Some volunteers were then welcomed to the embassy for short interviews to set up a video to promote them. In order to support them with administrative and logistical formalities, they were also welcomed on Monday for a workshop at the Alliance Française de Nairobi.
Finally, invited for a reception at the residence of the French Embassy in Kenya, these true Kenyan ambassadors in France had the opportunity to exchange with each other and meet Her Excellency Ambassador Aline Kuster-Menager, who wished them a rich and successful experience. She reminded them in particular of the importance of their mission in France, of cultural mediation and the transmission of knowledge, within the framework of our cooperation.
Interested in the program? We will launch the registration campaign for the next cohort very soon: stay tuned!
