The Context:

The Alliance française, the centre of reference for teaching of French as a Foreign Language, is part of a worldwide network whose main objectives are the teaching of French as a foreign language, the promotion of French-speaking cultures, interculturality and multilingualism and the training of teachers of French. Ideally located in the affluent suburbs of Nyali, the Alliance Française de Mombasa is a ‘not for profit, non-political and non-religious institution, which was founded in 1975.

Main Responsibilities of the teacher: As a Teacher of French (as a foreign language) at the Alliance Française, you are the embodiment of the quality of the service provided and you guarantee the cultural influence of our establishment.

- Teaching:
- General French or Specialized French Courses (French for Tourism, French For Diplomacy, French for Business, French for kids or for Technology). These classes can be dispensed to individuals (Private Classes) or to a conventional class. The classes can either be Intra-Mural or Extra -Mural (Schools, Colleges, Universities, Corporate Bodies…)
- Use of our own text books, teaching manuals and other teaching documents (Cosmopolite, Objectif Express, Bon Voyage) and new online /digital teaching tools (Culturethèque, Apolearn…)
- Adherence to the teaching methods and time allocation for courses based on the standards of the CEFR and the objectives defined by the Dean of Studies.

Scope of Work:

- Making Lesson Plans, follow-up and correction of student exercises, evaluation of their progress.
- Administrative tasks related to course management: attendance register monitoring, daily indication of course objectives, respect for the material, communication with the entire teaching team, contributions to the blog, participation in meetings, etc.
- information on the institution’s activities to (re)orient students
- Ad hoc replacements as needed.
- Occasional translation, interpreting and examination tasks

- Profile and skills required:

- Training and or significant experience in FLE (Teaching of French as A foreign Language) -Minimum of one year and/or 250 hours)
- Native or Bilingual Speaker (level C1 or C2).
- Accredited DELF/DALF Examiner.
- Availability & Flexibility: in terms of schedules (from 7h30 to 20h per week + regular work on Saturdays (organization of exams and children’s courses) and in terms of geographical mobility (Possibility of teaching in Kilfi or Kwale and training in Nairobi)
- Ability to use of new technologies.
- Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability (student audience, children, professionals) and knowledge of the Kenyan Educational institutions and programs.
- Perfect knowledge of the CEFR.
- Good management of group dynamics, irrespective of their size (class of 7 to 30 students).
- Ability to carry-out self-directed training, Good teamwork player and keen to participate in peer-to-peer training

Conditions sine qua non:
Kenyan nationality or holder of a work permit on Kenyan territory with a clean criminal record.
