Ms Julie Briand, French cooperation attaché, visited the Pan African University in JKUAT on 14 February 2020.
During the interview with Prof Magoma, Director; Dr Ng’ethe, Registar and Benson Mutoko, French teacher, a brief presentation of the university created in 2012 caught the Embassy’s interest: 250 students, half of whom are French-speaking, specialize in engineering, biotechnology, mathematics and civil engineering at the Master and PHD levels.
The 4 other sites are organized around themes (Cameroon, Nigeria, Algeria and South Africa).
The university has asked the Embassy to create a French corners in the library, support in the creation of language curricula (6 weeks intensive learning - English or French - before starting their study program).
These requests have met with the approval of the language service and an effort will be made to support PAU’s membership of the AUF. The presence of a French language assistant has also been considered.
ACPF then met with the students, representatives of excellence from many African countries and discussed with them possible avenues of collaboration, in particular increased support from Campus France in the search for co-supervising for French-speaking students.
