Handover of a Quality Certification in French as a Foreign Language to 4 schools of FLAAP network [fr]
Following the first ceremonies in May and June 2022 in Nairobi and Mombasa, the new Attaché for French and the Officer for Education and French toured partner schools from French Language As A Priority (FLAAP) network in the Western part of Kenya. The French Embassy in Kenya had the pleasure to handover a Quality Certification in French as a Foreign Language to four schools for their commitment to promote French.
• Kisumu Day and Boarding High School, on the 17th October 2022

First decorated school, Kisumu Day and Boarding High School has a French resources center that was inaugurated in 2014 by His Excellency Ambassador Rémi Maréchaux. The center embodies a place to learn and discover Francophone cultures for the 150 students who follow French classes within the school. Two French teachers, Joy Odipo and Olivia Ayallo, use interactive pedagogical methods such as theater plays, skits, poems and short movies. Joy Odipo, who succeeded recently for DELF B2 and is examiner of DELF, plays a crucial role for the organization of DELF examination sessions in Kisumu region.
• Bunyore Girls High School, on the 17th October 2022

Located in the francophile County of Vihiga, Bunyore Girls High School has a French resources center that was launched in 2010 by Her Excellency Ambassador Elisabeth Barbier. This center enables to use materials to get ready for DELF Junior, an examination that 40 students of the school sit every year (levels A1 to B1). Two teachers, Diana Sandra Nakhabi (having DELF B2, examiner of DELF, administrator on IFprofs Kenya) and Godfrey Inyangala (preparing for DELF B1 thanks to Interreg V OI funds), make the French language appreciated in the school and in the region. The significant participation to the testimony campaign « I still speak French after Bunyore Girls High School » certifies that Alumni continue to speak French after high school.

In this school of 2 500 students, two French teachers, John Masambu Wataka and Belinda Mulira, promote various activities: rehearsal of a theater play for the next festival, participation to the project « Engaged classes » with Francophonia and to the operation « Pépites Internationales 2022 » coordinated by Alliance Française of Paris, preparation for DELF Junior, etc. John Masambu Wataka had DALF C1 a few years ago and is now examiner of DELF. This beautiful handover ceremony also gave pride of place to the luhya community with traditional dances.
• Saint Mary’s Yala School, on the 18th October 2022

At Saint Mary’s Yala School, located in Siaya County, all signs and classrooms names are both in English and French. Three teachers – Norraline Lilliane Owino, Damarice Yongo and Mercy Wanyonyi – deliver French classes to 400 enthusiast students. The school also encourages capacity building of teachers. Norraline, administrator on IFprofs Kenya, having DALF C1, now prepares DALF C2, while the two other teachers get ready for DELF B1, thanks to Interreg V OI funds.
