The Alliance Française in Kenya [fr]
Alliance Française was founded in 1883 in Paris by renowned humanists such as Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne, with the objectives of reinforcing friendship and solidarity between peoples through the promotion of the French language and cultural projects.
Currently, the international network of Alliance Française is composed of 1,062 not-for-profit institutions in 132 countries, which operate under local legislation and are managed by a Board made up of prominent personalities in each country.
Alliance Française de Nairobi was founded in 1949 and is currently the largest on the African continent with more than 4,000 students attending French language courses every year and with a wide range of cultural events (exhibitions, concerts, festivals, films...) organized within its premises. It receives strong support from the French Embassy in Kenya for the implementation of its cultural, artistic and educational cooperation projects.
Alliance Française provides an excellent learning environment for students wishing to pursue higher studies in France and benefit from a high standard of academic education. Foreign students in France also benefit from the same subsidized education costs as French nationals. A genuine opportunity for original international academic curricula.
With a qualified and experienced team of 25 teachers, 12 classrooms equipped with modern teaching aids, Alliance Française is an incontestable leader in teaching French as a foreign language. It is also an accredited examination and training centre for international diplomas in French (French Ministry of Education, Alliance Française de Paris and the Paris’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry). The fully equipped multimedia library offers a collection of 25,000 publications, and 4,000 audiovisual and multimedia references, French press, several multimedia and audio consultation points as well as a professional Resource Centre for teachers of French in Kenya. This is a real asset, helping those already speaking French keep abreast of events and happenings around the world in French, and providing key learning tools to those wishing to improve their knowledge of French at all levels.
The Resource Centre is a vital information centre for the many young Kenyan people wishing to travel to France for higher studies or for the Au pair exchange program. All you want to know is there for you!
Equipped with a modern auditorium, two exhibition galleries and a popular "garden stage" for concerts, Alliance Française de Nairobi organized 122 cultural and artistic events in 2006 attended by 48, 000 spectators. Welcome to the most vibrant cultural institution in town!
