Francophonie month 2021 in Kenya : "Une saison qui se dessine" [fr]

The French language is a mosaic bringing together over 300 million speakers and countless cultures. Under the Francophone banner, dozens of thousands of Kenyans sought to express their creativity, talents and open themselves to a world of opportunities.

"A season of cartoons and animation" wishes to highlight that language is diverse and through the numerous colors they seek to illustrate their creativity under the theme: A season of cartoons and animation.

The Embassies of Belgium, Burkina Faso, Canada, Djibouti, Egypt, France, Tunisia and Switzerland, alongside the Lycée Français, Alliances françaises and francophone civil society organisations have prepared a colourful program of events. Throughout this month, in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret and on your screens, we will merrily gather around many events, of course strictly adhering to the set health protocols: film screenings, live shows, litterature cafés, virtual conferences, exhibitions, literary, scientific and sports events.

The 2àth of March has been markes by the International Organisation of Francophonie as the International Francophonie Day, under the values of equality, particularly in the context of Covid-19 pandemic, with the theme "Francophone women, resilient women". We will approach this subject in Kenya from several angles: photography, with the exhibitions Women Humanitarians at the French school Denis Diderot and Between Images and Identity with Adji Dieye and Thandiwe Muiru, comic strip with Chloé Wary and the theme of access to sport for all in partnership with Slum Soka, literature with the book fair at the Alliance française de Mombasa run by the young Kenyan Lorna Likiza gastronomy with the talented Sonia Massioui (Chez Sonia restaurant) and finally the cinematographic angle with Manele Labidi for Un divan à Tunis, Mati Diop for Atlantique, Mounia Meddour for Papicha, Sophie Tavert Macian for Traces and finally Jacinthe Folon for Roues libres.

Together, we will explore our cultures and share their values of openness, universal learning, sustainable development and gender equality.

Together, let’s celebrate our francophone diversity!
